Nowadays, the present generation seeks instant solutions rather than long-term benefits. It is because of the technology we are incorporating into our daily lives. The fast-growing technology will not give you the essential solution to your problems; the solution is based on how you use the technology. The technology used in healthcare industries has a huge reception except for a few concepts.

One of the concepts, which is fast growing in recent times, is home aligners. Especially this concept has now become a debatable topic among dentists. People prefer invisible braces over traditional braces because the clear aligners do not carry the discomfort that traditional braces have. Likewise, teeth straightening can be done faster and smoother with Invisalign treatments.

What are at-home aligners?

Home aligners are the braces that dental firms design with the help of the impression we made, with the necessary items in kits. Unlike dental braces provided by a dentist, you have to make an impression with the appliances available in the teeth straightening kit.

Later, the impression has to be sent to the company you chose. They fabricate the brace and deliver it to you. Even though it seems flexible, many orthodontic experts have given a high-alert signal for this type of (DIY) braces for the following reasons.

1) No Consultation

Before you undergo any type of treatment or medication, consulting a specialist doctor is essential. Dental care treatment is not an exception. During the consultation process, your doctor will diagnose the cause of the disease or disorder. Whether it is caused by genetic inhabitants or some other external factor can only be determined with the help of a doctor consultation. But you could not enjoy this advantage in the (DIY) brace treatment.

2) High chances of skipping pre-treatments

Let’s have an example. If a patient has cavities in a tooth and needs teeth straightening, the dentist, before starting the braces treatment, he/she will do the essentials to make the teeth cavity-free! Because the cavity in your teeth will affect your teeth straightening treatments.

But in-home braces, as you are the only one who diagnoses your case, the chance of getting such pre-treatment is impossible. And could result in further complications in the future.

3) Improper fit of braces

The success of the orthodontic treatment is based on how the braces fit over your teeth. When you have in-office braces treatments, the dentists will adjust your braces until it fits your teeth.

On the contrary, in (DIY) dental brace treatment, your braces as designed based on your impression. Hence the accuracy of the braces fits on your teeth is very low. It could cause serious gum-related issues in the future.

4) This will make the treatment more costly

The home brace treatment is cheap, but it does mean that using at-home aligners is safe. This at-home aligners treatment will be useful for those with a slight misalignment, whereas it is not a permanent solution for long-term problems.

If you think home brace treatment is cost-effective, be ready to face serious dental consequences like gum recession, oral tissue irritations, etc. You better have consent from your dentist before undergoing dental brace treatment.

Bottom line

The Orthodontists in our Zenith Dentistry advise the people who prefer (DIY) to get answers to the questions below from dental firms.

  • Are my aligners designed with the supervision of a licensed dentist?
  • Can I see a dentist in person in case of brace repairs?
